Rachel Bilson : Famous Duds

Rachel Bilson made her Hollywood debut as Summer Roberts on The O.C. as a bratty SoCal mean girl in 2003. Since then, Rachel's style has evolved quite nicely from bikini tops with daisy dukes to trousers with cardigans. This petite star has perfected the casual chic that is so L.A. with vintage twists and unexpected accessories that add an urban edge.

Multi-Personality Order

This ensemble is a lesson in contradictions. The black lace front suggests sex while demurely staying modestly covered. The structured navy dress is a combination of strength and femininity. And to top off all of this demurely sexy and strongly feminine get-up, the fingerless gloves add a touch of punk. The lack of accessories speaks to Ms Bilson’s style sense too, since any necklace or earrings would be overkill next to the shiny navy and black lace.

Insouciant Insight

This outfit is a good example of how to dress casually and comfortably without losing critical style points. She’s just wearing jeans, ballet flats, and a sweatshirt – very collegiate – and she still looks dapper with her attention to accessories and detail. The contrasting pink scarf, oversized satchel and zippers on her pants maintain a certain level of sophistication.

vfish in Training

A simple enough dress and jacket combo that looks great without being over-thought. The vfish girl can easily draw inspiration from this look by pairing the Turner Dress or the Quinn Dress with a vintage blazer. Throw on a pair of stacked heels and you’ll be ready

for a magazine event – or a rooftop shindig.

Emmy Winners & Losers

You can't have an office full of girls and expect there not to be a post-red carpet discussion. We all have our opinions on the best and worst of last nights Emmys and we've decided to share them with you! Here's what we think. Feel free to weigh in!

Mandy:

My top pick for the Emmy's is Nina Dobrev. Her dress has hollywood glamour and edge at the same time. She is styled perfectly.

My big WHA WHAA for the night is my home girl Anna Paquin. Just because you hang with vampires doesn’t mean you have to look like one. She would have been better of in booty shorts and a Merlotte’s t-shirt!

Brooke:

Kristen Wiig. I love the plunging neckline, the print, and absolutely LOVE the detail on the shoulders. It also kind of reminds me of my wedding dress... I love it!!

Mindy Kaling’s dress looks like an 80's prom dress that threw up all over the red carpet!

Ashley:

My best is Lea Michele. She never fails to impress on the Red Carpet. I love the dark blue color and the ruffles around the bottom – not to mention the jewels... She was a far cry from Rachel Berry and I promise I didn’t choose her just because I’m a huge Gleek.

My worst is Kate Gosselin. Why was she even there in the first place? It looks like she pulled her old prom dress out of mothballs for the evening. It's painful to even look at her next to Lea.

Kirsten:

My favorite is Jayma Mays I’m loving all the detail and the deep blue color looks fabulous on her!

My worst is Jane Lynch. Love HER, just not the horribly made dress that looked like it came straight from Deb's prom section.

Ellen:

I loved the cutout gown Maria Menunos wore.

I absolutely despised Heidi Klum's dress. It was so ridiculously short and not Emmy appropriate.

vfish Obsessions: Summer Trends

Mandy:

I love bright floral prints! I’ve always loved color, but florals have made a come-back. Tops, dresses, tanks, I love it all!

Brooke:

I LOVE, LOVE oversized slouchy basic t-shirts or shirts paired with shorts. Basics are my favorite trend regardless of the season but I feel this season is the first season in awhile that it has been a big trend. I also am a big fan of the oversized pocket on the fronts of slouchy shirts.

Ashley:

It’s hard for me to decide between rompers and high-waisted shorts! I love high waisted shorts with a cute top tucked in. You look like a total throwback to the 50s and I love it! But rompers are just so cute and easy to wear…

Lauren:

For my fav summer trend I would have to go with Denim!
Denim "boyfriend shorts", denim dresses, denim shirts...denim accessories. Love it with florals, neon/brights and even chunky jewelry!

Kirsten:

My favorite summer trend would probably have to be Fedoras. I have loved them for so long, and love that they are big right now so I can find them in all different styles and at cheaper prices! This is one trend that better continue so I can wear them well into the fall!

Jaclyn:

My fav summer trend is wearing fun, strappy sandals and flats! I love being able to be dressy and add style to an outfit without putting on a pair of darn heels!

Ellen:

One of my favorite summer trends is trouser shorts! You can either dress them up with a cute tailored jacket and heels or dress them down by pairing them with a basic tee. Either way, you're going to look fun and fashionable!

Meet Ellen!

Guten tag! My name is Ellen Guier and I’m a 22- year-old small town girl living in the big city! I moved here from Sweet Springs, Missouri in the summer of 2008 for school and have loved every minute of it. I will be graduating from the Illinois Institute of Art with a Fashion Design degree in March. I am German, Irish, an Aries, and a BRUNETTE! Woot! My hobbies include playing sports, quoting movies, eating any and all food in Chicago, playing board games, watching terrible 80’s and 90’s movies, caring for my precious kitten, Addison, being the best aunt in the world for my beautiful nieces and nephew, playing Mario Kart, going out, cooking, and relaxing on the beach. I dislike velvet, the color pink, and people who ride their bikes on the sidewalks. I love Michael Buble, Journey, Michael Jackson everything (Dirty Diana is my absolute favorite), Diana Ross, Etta James, and everything hip hop. If I could change one thing about myself it would be my eyebrows because they’re almost nonexistent and I have to color them to make them noticeable. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge klutz and am always running into things. (bruises are a constant on my ripe banana body) I absolutely love my life and I love what I do. I’m extremely blessed to have such a loving and supportive family. I could not be where I am today without them!

Meet Jaclyn!

Well my full name is Jaclyn Nicole, formerly "Jackie" - wanted to move towards a more sophisticated time in my life - graduating college and all - so I introduce myself now as Jaclyn. I'm 22 years old. Wanted to be a teacher all my life until I took a fashion class junior year in high school. NEVER knew you could do fashion for a living. How crazy!!! Love all types of music, NO country, love going to concerts & basically any live music. Grew up in Troy, MI and just moved to Chicago in July to pursue living the big city life and starting fresh. Favorite place I've vacationed is Bermuda. I HATE fruit with the exceptions of lemons and limes, my favorite alcoholic beverage would have to be beer, it's grown on me a LOT in case you were wondering- Blue Moon is the absolute best, but minus the orange on the glass ;). I am naked without my toes painted, my favorite store currently is Francesca's Collections. My hobbies include: watching my Armenian sisters on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kourt & Khloe, and reading celeb gossip magazines, wondering why Kourtney is with Scott, sewing when I get the chance and weaving rugs!!! I Want to start my own rug business- as soon as I find a loom I am going to buy it! I need to stop going tanning and this winter I will probably be addicted to the spray tanner! Ahh! My favorite season has been summer all my life but it changed yesterday and I am currently looking forward to fall. My favorite designer is Betsey Johnson. My favorite food is crab legs...

Meet Grace!

Hi everyone! This is Grace Mack. I just finished my third year as a Textile and Apparel Design major at University of Wisconsin - Madison. I'm about to move to Manhattan to finish my last year of school at the Fashion Institute of Technology - and can't wait to get there! In addition to these classes I combined my love of travel with school and studied abroad several times including a semester at Central St. Martins in London, a summer studying Feng Shui in Beijing, China, and another trip to learn about art history in Spain and Portugal. Travel and fashion are my two biggest passions - and being able to combine them has been amazing! A few (of thousands) of my favorite designers are Rick Owens, Alexander Wang, YSL, Helmut Lang, and I think what Nicolas Ghesquière has done for Balenciaga is unreal! I love reading fashion and design blogs and always have new design obsessions. Apart from fashion, I like watching movies and eating Mexican or Thai food. Ultimately I would love to own my own fashion company!

vfish Obsessions: Summer Edition

Mandy:

I’m gonna go with Gettin’ My Grill On.... You name it , I'll grill it. I’m big into grilling fruits this summer… Pineapples, Peaches and Pears. Paired with a delish Chargrilled Chicken breast, you cant go wrong.

Brooke:

I’m obsessed with Street festivals… My husband and I try to go to one every weekend when the weather is nice. So far we have been to: Rib fest, Wells Street festival, Taste of Chicago, and German Fest.

Ashley:

I love going to the Lake of the Ozarks. Spending time with family and good friends, grilling, boating, jet skiing, you name it!

Kirsten:

My summer obsession is definitely the beach. I just can't get enough! It is so relaxing, yet fun. I love everything about the beach, the water, sand and especially all those barely-clothed gorgeous guys. As amazing as it is to just lay and get a tan, beer is a must while at the beach. For me, the summer just is not complete without drinking and grilling at the beach!

Lauren:

Rooftop parties! At a swanky lounge, trendy bar or resturaunt, posh hotel or good 'ol fashioned 3-flat building rooftop summer party.

City views, BBQ's, drinking legally outside, chicago summer, friends and potential booty calls...its pretty much like a mullet, all business in front and a party in the back (or rooftop).

Jaclyn:

My summer obsession would be grilling! I love making burgers and hot dogs and steaks and anything else you can think of to grill! If it's an option that can be cooked, I'm definitely grilling it!

Ellen:

My summer obsession is strawberry margaritas and guacamole on a hot night with my friends.

Grace:

True Blood! Reason - it is my biggest guilty pleasure! The story lines are suspenseful and the men are VERY attractive.

Maya:

Aaaaahh those romantic summer nights! That's my favorite thing about summer, taking a midnight walk with your main squeeze under the stars... So romantic! And of course, the humidity!! It's soooo tropical- I love it!!!
